Firstly, Akihabara (Akiba) is known as the discount electronics capital of Tokyo. There are numerous electronics stores here (like 20+) and they all stock things such as laptops, cameras, computer parts, software, accessories gaming consoles, TV's blu-ray players... you get the idea. In terms of price, I couldn't work out if it was actually that much cheaper.. with the current poor conversion rate, I don't think there were too many bargains.
Secondly, Akihabara is the anime and "otaku" capital of Toyko. This means there are towers dedicated to anime and other more adult amusements. It's actually quite seedy and generally, the further up the tower you go, the more explicit the content. With the exception of this store - which was all adult - don't let the sign fool you, the first floor had adult content too...
After visiting Akihabara, I had a dinner of paella from an "award winning" restaurant in Ginza. This only reinforced one thing: when in Japan do not eat non-Japanese food. It will always be expensive and average at best. 5/10.
Day 3: A more promising start to the day with S taking me to Komaba, where "Curry House Lucy" is located. According to S, this is the best Curry in Japan!
I ordered the Seafood Curry + Butter + Boiled Egg + Chicken Katsu + Vegetables 1500 Yen.
I can't actually say that I've had a better curry than this. The curry had sufficient spiciness, butter makes everything better, the vegetables gave texture, the seafood was fresh. S believes that they make the curry from scratch daily, not from an instant powder. The texture of the curry leads me to believe this is true. This was one great curry. 9/10.
Dinner was a Kyoto style restaurant called Ohashi with Pretty Fly (PF) and his fiance. Unfortunately I only got photos of the dessert, but the meal was good, highlights being "Mochi Imo" which was basically the texture of gnocchi, gomoku agedashi tofu which had crabstick and vegetables mixed with the tofu before it was deep fried. Much better than the stupid agedashi at sake which was on masterchef...
Here were some of the desserts, Anmitsu
and Tofu and Green Tea Tiramisu
EDIT: Hot Girls found - Shibuya Department Stores.
Tomorrow: Ramen Museum and Yokohama Chinatown!
